Black box with the legend "We've got an update for you"

I'm getting a black box in the lower right hand corner with the legend "We've got an update for you", see attached file.

 

It does not have a close button. Is this malicious software or genuine MS.?

Yes this is legitimate.

 

I would restart to get the update if it were my machine (however it's your machine... your rules :))

A second on the, "it's legitimate."

 

You'll also be seeing a lot more of these over time, as they're for the "small patch" updates and security updates.  The style for the full feature updates is slightly different.
