Hello all,

My old laptop crashed and as far as I know the HD was not affected. I'm pretty sure the mother board is bad. I have purchased a new laptop and would like to know what my options are for transfering dat from my old drive to my new laptop HD. I only want to transfer certain data to my new laptop, not everything.

Someone told me about an external HD system where I can put my old HD into and transfer data through USB. What are these called and are they effective? I only have about 20GB of data I need to transfers. And alot of that is music. I really would like to extact my music onto a data disk and then transfers all my files onto my new laptop.

Any advice is appreciated.

Regards!

What I believe they were referring to was and external drive case. These are simple, and economical solutions. It also will allow you to continue to use the drive as a second or backup drive once you have it installed in the case.
