I have an extraordinary number of computer problems. I can't figure out what's going on. I have three laptops (one is older, another is a newer one to replace it and the third is for work.)
ALL three have issues.
The 'older one' really isn't that old. I bought it a little over a year ago. It had a graphics display issue. I had issues with Lenovo about the warranty period and finally straighten it out last September and in that month, I sent it in for warranty repair twice. Then the warranty ran out and my problems returned. Currently I use it offline and it can't save text files, stating that the hard drive cannot be located.
My 'new' computer (Windows 10...the other two are Windows 7) was responding slowly and I took it in for warranty repair. They replaced the hard drive, the touch pad, and the motherboard. I had hardly used it.
I do not open links in emails. I do not install any illegal software and am always vigilant about security. I don't visit porno or gaming sites. I don't download movies or music.
The latest problem:
This is a Toshiba laptop, almost two years old. intel i7, 5500 U@2.4 MHz, 12 GB dual channel DDR3 RAM.
Last summer I submitted to a malware cleaning here at Bleeping Computer. My machine was certified clean. Immediately following that, I took it to a technician who went through it thoroughly and confirmed that it was functioning properly.
Over the past two months I have experienced three blue screens. Another time the computer locked up and I could gain back control only by removing the battery. My most recent problem has been disappearing files. I created a file the other day, and saved it in a particular directory. The next day, it wasn't there. I searched the directory folder and it was not found. I then did another search, but this time, accessing my full C drive. I found it and it was listed where I had saved it, but when returned to that folder, it was not there again, though I could access the file directly by clicking on it from the search results.
I needed another file I had created some months back and could not find it anywhere on this computer (I created it on this computer.) I had back-up on an external HD and as soon as I plugged it in, a msg box popped up that said the drive needed to be scanned and fixed. I checked OK. I found the file on the drive and copied it to my computer. Last summer, I scanned this drive with Malwarebytes and Avast and it was clean.
Earlier yesterday morning I accessed my Yahoo email account attached to my Flickr account. I had no problem. I logged out. This was about an hour earlier than searching for the missing files described above.
Following locating the files on my external HD, I again accessed my Yahoo mail account, but my password (the same one that I had successfully used earlier) failed. My password is over twenty characters of letters (upper/lower), numbers, and symbols. I had just changed it less than a month ago.
I don't normally mess with my computer as I am not very techie evolved. A few days ago I found a solution to disappearing files on a Microsoft forum describing how to rebuild the indexing. I did this. Here is the link:
I ran this a few days ago, before this latest incident of disappearing files.
Any guesses on this? My computer repair man has no answers. Please don't hesitate to suggest some offbeat cause.
It's gotten to the point where I cannot depend on computers anymore and it is interfering with my work as I am very computer-dependent for what I do.
