Hi

 

I've been directed here by malware form moderator nasdaq, following this thread:

Basically,  my laptop constantly hands when viewing, switching between pages.

 

I have very, very, little computer knowledge, as stated in my profile, I'm recovering following a brain injury, I have difficulty digesting information, any advice, please be patient

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
 
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

   Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

    After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
 
     Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

     Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

     Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

Your hard drive temperature...has reached a stage where concern is warranted.

 

IMO, the minimum to be done is to backup any valued data to another drive...then run SeaTools For Windows Download - http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/ .  Long/extended test.  Let us know whether pass or fail.

Hi Louis

 

I'm lost what to do.

 

I downloaded this SeaTools For Windows Download -  run it, lots of files appeared on my desktop in different languages, I've no idea what to do next.

 

I then clicked on http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/ .no idea what to do, it looks the same as the link above.

It's always a good idea...to read the Guide provided for software which is unfamiliar to you.  If you click on the button for the SeaTools for Windows Guide...it should provide sufficient guidance.

Louis,

 

I got as far as downloading and running scans, all was Ok until I got to this: SATA-PATA, the scan failed stating Long Generic - fail.

 

I'm now stuck, I've tried to follow the user guide, but I'm getting myself frustrated as it's beyond my capability to digest or understand

If the scan failed...I interpret that as the kiss of death for that drive.  When running a hard drive diagnostic...the bottom line is "pass or fail" for the drive being tested.

You have a single hard drive...you need a new hard drive.

 

A replacement system would include its own drive,,,so if you want to replace the entire system...that's up to you.

Your current hard drive is a Seagate 320GB 2.5-inch SATA drive, 5400 rpm (which is slow and old).

 

You simply need a drive which is comparable or larger (your choice).

 

Examples.

 

With a new drive, you then either clone your current drive...or do a reinstall of Windows...or attempt a Factory Restore Per HP Instructions.

I note that choosing to clone may result in any problems that currently impact the drive and your system...may be duplicated by cloning.

 

I would suggest doing a clean install or restoring a system backup, if you have such.

 

Of course...if doing any of these things is too much for you...you can always just take the system to a reliable computer shop and tell them to replace the hard drive and/or clone the drive or do a clean install.
