I use Windows 7 on a DELL laptop.   My computer is running very slow today and I thought perhaps I had a virus.  When I went to check the last time my AVG had done a check, there  was a message that I had two versions of AVG running and so the one that I pay a subscription for isn't working (based on the comments that showed up when I clicked my virus program icon)  The paid virus program is AVG and the other shows up as AVG GEN when I look at all programs .  Also my CPU usage is very high, with all programs shut down with only the unfamiliar AVG virus program running.  My brother who knows a little more than I do about computers had me check and a program called svchost is using up 50 to 60 when you check CPU usage.

Any help would be appreciated.

3 - download and run ADWCleaner

4 - download, install, update, and run Malwarebytes Anti malware

I ditched avg months ago when they introduced the Zen suite in their free addition.  I now a memory sucking antivirus and I think you can remove zen and still have just the antivirus.  but I chose to go with the security essentials because it's less of a memory hog.
