I have just installed Sylpheed email client.....I have it setup to monitor my gmail accounts...2 of them

I have noticed an additional mailbox  ??.....I am actually not sure if that is what it is......the screenshot below shows "Mailbox (MH).....then a list,...Inbox,sent,drafts,queue,trash and junk....all are empty.

The 'tree' then goes on the show my email address, followed by Inbox and the rest of my folders etc

The "Mailbox (MH) perturbs me.

Any clues ?

Sylpheed uses something called MH format for its storage and apparently sets up what you're seeing automatically.

See these search results:  https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Sylpheed+MH+mailbox&t=hf&atb=v33-7__&ia=web where this is mentioned repeatedly.

got it.....short for 'mailhome".....

Sylpheed is executed for the first time, it automatically creates the configuration files under $HOME/.sylpheed/, and asks you the location of mailbox. The default is $HOME/Mail. If some files which are non-MH format already exist on the directory, you will have to specify another location.

Thank you Brian. I was having a minor panic attack as a family member has developed a pasion for hacking others email accounts.....and his initials are....MH

Back to Sylpheed.....appears to do what is says it does. It has loaded up two accounts from gmail without a murmur.

( For anyone else reading this topic...I am running Linux Mint 18.2, and Sylpheed can be found in software manager)

I have just changed to Evolution  ....also available in the software manager.

Reacts quicker than sylpheed.....feels like Thunderbird from Mozilla

Still trying how to figure out the 'polling interval'...(how often it checks gmail for new mail), and a few other minor matters, but so far I think I am on a winner.

Update : I figured out the polling time for new emails...quite simple really.  Open preferences, mail accounts, highlight the email account you are using...and click on 'Edit'.....then under 'receiving Options', adjust 'check for new messages every'....?minutes etc

Evolution works like a dream....it appears to be even more intuitive than Thunderbird

Support as many Email addresses as you want....and will check all of them at one time, or individually if you prefer.
