Have always associated .htm and .html with NOTEPAD but now

Microsoft Notepad is a text editor, so it's normal that htm(l) files are displayed as text code. A web-browser is a more suitable application to view htm(l) files.

About Firefox, check if there's a  pre-selected grayscale or "black and white" (B/W) option on the printer settings dialog.
