Hello, charley1:

The easist thing to do would be to delete the icons on your desktop that you don't need, or rarely use. Chances are that they are also located under All Programs under your Start button. Another solution that I have done, is create a folder on the desktop and move icons into the folder. The contents would cover a type of activity that I do on the computer. With mine, I could have a work, kids stuff, games, and internet folder.

Personally, I would go with my first suggestion and delete the unneeded desktop icons.
It's up to you.

Hope that helps.

If you have saved files, such as word documents and PDF files, on your desktop, create a folder for them in My Documents, or whatever you use for your virtual file cabinet, and transfer those files from the desktop to the new folder. You don't want to make the mistake of deleting a desktop icon to discover you deleted the file as well.

My desktop always gets cluttered when I'm doing research. Then I get to file things away to clean it up. Wish my real desk could get cleaned up as easily.
