I am to the point, to where I can't really do anything. I usually sit down and do the research and figure it out, but I believe I am to the point to where I can't do anything else without help. I have tried to run scans, but either my computer locks up in the middle of a scan, or it reboots. It will usually stay on, and I can surf the net, without the reboot or freeze, but as soon as I run spybot, or panda, it just freezes up, sometimes within a minute, sometimes it will go 10 min. So here is my log, see if somebody can help me. Please!

Hi jaydreamstar,

Welcome to BleepingComputer Forums and thanks again for your patience.

1. You are running HijackThis as a zip-file from a temporary folder, which means that no back-ups will be made by HijackThis before it fixes the bad entries. It is very important to remove HijackThis to its own location and unzip it before running it:

Create a folder on your C: drive called C:\hijackthis. Unzip HijackThis (right-click it and choose Extract all) and drag it into that folder!

2. Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

3. Run HijackThis, click the Config... button, then go to the Misc Tools section and click Open Uninstall Manager. You'll see a list of programs; click on Save List...

The file "uninstall_list.txt" will be created. Copy and paste the contents of this file to your next reply.

4. Go to your Hijackthis folder and rename Hijackthis.exe to Analyse.exe and than reboot.
After reboot, run Analyse.exe (which is hijackthis of course) and post the log it creates in your next reply.

Please post the Smitfraud report together with the uninstall_list.txt and a HijackThis log!

Hi jaydreamstar,

1. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel and double-click on Add or Remove Programs. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall the following programs:

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02
ToolBar888

2. You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key a few times;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

3. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please post C:\vundofix.txt together with C:\rapport.txt and a fresh HijackThis log for review.

I tried to reboot into safe mode, but it would just sit on a black screen, and not do anything. I tried a couple of times, but would get the same thing. I went ahead and did everything under regular mode. Here are the reports.

I received no report for Vundu fix, but it said there were no infected files

Hi jaydreamstar,

I tried to reboot into safe mode, but it would just sit on a black screen, and not do anything.

You followed the instructions? For the time being it's okay since Smidfraud seemed to do a proper job and cleaned everything it found.

I received no report for Vundu fix,

The report should be on your C-drive: C:\vundofix.txt

... but it said there were no infected files

For whatever reason Vundofix didn't work properly since I still see signs of Vundo in your HijackThis log. Please run Vundofix again and be very carefull to follow all the instructions one by one (especially pay attention to step 3 and 4). Since you have Vundofix on your desktop:
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when
VundoFix appears at reboot.
Please post the C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log for review.

Also, I can't open any folders on the desktop. If I try to open one, the desktop goes blank, and then comes back, and doesn't do anything. I can go and browse through the start/run, but can't actually go into the folder from my desktop.
Thanks for all the help so far

Ok, so here is what happened.

-removed the vstoolbar from add remove
-deleted the files told in highjackthis.
-still was unable to boot into safe mode, but went on a limb and booted into safe mode with networking, that worked.
-went to explorer and deleted unaoakg.dll and uhvjsul.dll. couldn't find pmkhi.dll or yayxusp.dll.
when I tried to run the scan with Kaspersky, it would run for a few minutes, and then my computer would reboot. I ran it twice with the same outcome, but did notice it had found 1 virus, and 3 objects. Don't know what they were since it rebooted.
side not, i wanted you to be aware, that it is always kicking up the "Winantivirus Pro 2006". Figured you may have assumed it from the logs, but thought I would throw it out there just in case.
When my computer would reboot, it would say "Hardware monitor found an error, Enter Power setup menu for details"

I may be giving too much info, but, figured it wouldn't hurt
You asked for Kaspersky and HJT log, but couldn't finish Kaspersky to get a log, but here is my HJT. Sorry for being such a hassle!

Ok, so I tried the Kaspersky scan again, and stopped it after it had found a few items since it likes to reboot in the middle of a scan. I will try and rescan again, and maybe get it all the way through, but here is what little of the scan I did get.

Hi jaydreamstar,

I am sorry but I am travelling at the moment and cann't get back to you before tomorrow evening. Because of a misunderstanding on my side I didn't inform you on this earlier. Please leave a message so I know you're still there when I get to my computer tomorrow evening.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yes, I am still here, awaiting your expertese (sp?). I can't really do a whole lot. But I WAS piddling around, and would run a scan with Highjackthis, and did notice that a lot of the stuff was coming back, with different numbers in the front of it. Does that mean, that it is just reinstalling itself? Just curious.
Thanks
Jay
