Hi I'm trying to set up Outlook for my gmail account. I'm using the instructions from Microsoft but still getting an error message. The message I'm getting is to verify the email address field. I'm using user@gmail.com as per the instructions but it's not working. Any idea what is going on?

Have you enabled POP in the gMail settings dialog on your account's web page?

Are you using your correct E-mail address as the UserName? Be sure to double-check the spelling.
Regards,
John

Try just using your username (without the @gmail.com) to see if that works. I've used both with varying degrees of success in my email utilites.
