It still has problems though--it seems to be connecting and disconnecting to the server, and the folders are not synchronizing. I'll see how it's doing tomorrow, and if needed, I'll do your next step.

I had a thought. How many emails are you syncing with outlook. If you are are you can increase the sever timeout so that it doesn't timeout in one minute. You can also limit the number of emails that Imap does pull down from the settings menu within the Gmail forwarding/Imap setting

4 out of 5 are syncing today. I'm still getting error messages concerning the synchronizing of folders. Should I increase the timeouts  to  5 minutes? and why should I limit the e-mails?

I was thinking that it was having trobule syncing emails and I was concern about It being syncing  state forever. Depending on how much  emails it will slow your connection or worst but I have another approach.

Let's try another approach:

How many folders are you trying to sync to your Outlook on your computer. Can you post a screenshot of what it's trying to sync? There is a way to only sync individuals folder using IMAP Folders On the ribbon there is a folder menu and on the menu bar there is an IMAP folder  option. It will open a dialog box and the right top corner it says, Query click that and it will list all of the active folders that it is syncing to outlook. You can select the folder and select Subscribe to keep the folder to sync or unsubscribe to stop syncing that folder when done click apply and ok.

I did go to imap folders>query, and I see all the folders in there, there does seem to be too many. do you want a list of them? I'm not sure which ones to keep...

Select the ones that you dont want outlook to  sync to your outlook folder That will probably stop the syncing of unnecessary folders

Like

Inbox

All Mail

Draft

Important

Sent Mail

Spam

Starred

Trash

Items in red are not allowed to unsubscribe because of Outlook Default folders

You can probably Unsubscribe to Important and All Mail and Starred.  All Mail folder is what probably is the big syncing errors you are having because that is every email populated in your gmail account

These folders will stay on the severs but wont sync to outlook

Are you by chance using two-step verification on your google account. If so, this requires you to make an app specific password in google to connect to your account through outlook.

Hi dmccoyks,

Thank you for your reply. Not now, but I did try it a few months ago and it was no help. I disabled it. It appears that I have so much clogged up mail in Outlook, that it just refuses to function half the time. I have too many folders and I tried unsubscribing from them and it didn't work. I have been using this for 7 years, and have had multiple issues over the years with this app working correctly with gmail. I'm really about at wits end with this. It "kind of" works off and on now, and sometimes stops completely and will not stay connected to the server.

take care,

Steve

Okay, I have been using and used several different versions of outlook with gmail for many years and have never had any problems.
