Hello fellow Members,

This is the 2nd time that I've had this problem. I cannot connect to the gmail server in my Office Outlook 2010. The  first time I tried several things, and finally after running a sfc/scannow it re-connected. I tried it again today, but this time it does not help. My gmail settings are correct, the "connect to unsecure client" is on, and I have IMAP enabled in gmail settings. I've tried every imaginable port setting, with SSL, TSL, and no encryption as well. And I've tried POP3 too. I've also tried it several times without advanced settings, and am careful with typos. here is some error messages:

Cannot connect to IMAP server 2607:f8b0:400e:c01::6d (2607:f8b0:400e:c01::6d:143), connect error 10060"
    Protocol:    IMAP
    Server:    IMAP.gmail.com
    Port:    143
    Error Code:    0x800CCCD9

There are more error messages: 1st error just says I cannot log onto the incoming server (IMAP) and 2nd error: "The server responded: 530 5.7.0. must issue a STARTTLS command first; d28s10702814  14pfb.139-gsmtp." and there's a task synchronizing error; 0x800ccc0e and 0x800ccc67 "Cannot connect to the smtp server, connect error 10060"

I also did the Office repair from the control panel (3 months ago), and the scannow repair in command prompt.

I just tried scannow again and just about every setting (port) there is, with no success. Here is the latest error messages:

“Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP): Your server unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.”

“Send test e-mail message: The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).”

Automatic update is on and updates are current. The last time it updated,(about 10 days ago) it got stuck and I had to manually shut it off and restart. Right after this, Outlook stopped working. I've also been getting some kind of computer error message that states "a thread is stuck" and it has to restart

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

From your error code, it looks like time is off Please double check your time on your pc.

I have attached the current setting for IMAP protocol. Please know I have Office 365 so I have Outlook 2016 your may look different but the account Setup wizard is the same procedure

Make sure that Gmail doesn't block login by turning on Access for Less secure apps in Account Dashboard

These are live settings

Black Marking indicted to protect my Identity.

Hope that helps

Sometimes Outlook transposes IMAP protocol instead of  encpytion port as standard port  of 143 but gmail uses 993/imap and 587/smtp port

Thank you for your reply, coxcris,

I entered your suggestions but  but I already knew it would not work--and it didn't. This runs far deeper than just using the correct protocols. I've been using this program for almost 10 years and I think it's really corrupted. False error messages pop up when they should not. I really have no idea what to try next...My time is just fine, those error messages are ones from a few months ago that I was able to copy and re-post here.I have no option to apply a STARTTLS command, so I used SLS for imap, and smtp. My understanding is that 587 issues that command. here is the error message:

"Send test e-mail message: Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance."

I've already tried other encryption types with no success.

Have you try to repair your (.pst file) See if that is the problem https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/272227/how-to-repair-your-outlook-personal-folder-file--pst

try STMP of 465. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/hX4g6K0Gxy4

If all else fails we can attempt to reset the .pst file by creating a new one and backing up the old one or Reinstall Outlook. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b

In my opinion its either the PST file or Outlook is corrupt. Since your using IMAP proctol it would be easier to back up your contacts and pst file and recreate the PST file and start over

None of this worked, and I would need  step-by-step instructions to create a new .pst file.

Thanks!

I searched for "create a new pst file" and followed the steps here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Create-an-Outlook-profile-f544c1ba-3352-4b3b-be0b-8d42a540459d but it did not work.

I forgot to mention;the time before when it did this, I re-installed Office 2010 and it did not help. And I'm getting more false-positive error messages today than before--it even told me it worked--I clicked finish, and it was not connected to the server.

yes, I selected the new one and clicked ok  but still, Outlook refused to connect. I just saw a test message that did go through, so it must have worked and then stopped working.

Please delete the old ones or remove all of them from the Mail Control Panel  and start fresh

If that doesn't help or solve this issue then Use this tool at the buttom of the page and once that complete reinstall Outloock or Office 2010  https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b?CTT=1&CorrelationId=bcee87d1-1fba-45f6-89d0-60e771521077&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US&ocmsassetID=HA010357402

coxcris,

OK that worked! I deleted all 3 profiles and it asked for a new one, and on the retry it connected without using port settings--it's down loading all my mail. I just hope it will last this time. Thank you for all your help.

Your welcome Hammer4481 :)

It will auto-detect your Gmail server settings when you create a new profile with your account credentials

Have a wonderful afternoon
