My Windows 10 (64 bit) Version 1709 will not open the Edge Browser.  The problem started in the last version and i hoped version 1709 would fix the problem but no luck. When I click on the icon to open Edge it opens for a few seconds and then closes.  I have googled the problem and have attempted to fix via suggestions made with no luck.. I wonder if I must do a clean install of Windows, will that fix the problem? Thanks for an help...

If you are having any of the problems like below with Microsoft Edge, then resetting Microsoft Edge settings to default and reinstalling Microsoft Edge may help.

  • Microsoft Edge doesn't not open when you click/tap on it's icon

  • Microsoft Edge is missing from the Start menu

  • Microsoft Edge is not listed in default apps.

  • Microsoft Edge opens and then closes  immediately.

When you reset Microsoft Edge, it will also delete all of your favorites in Microsoft Edge.

If wanted, you should back up your favorites in Microsoft Edge first.

Thank you again for your help.. But after doing a repair install, nothing has changed..  I can't believe it. I have a desktop computer with mostly the same software on board and Edge works fine..  I don't get it.. Could it be a software app that could cause this?

Wait there actually people who use Microsoft Edge? Wow that's incredible :-)

Still though it's best to install secondary browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome

Meanwhile at Microsoft HQ:

MS exec 1: Well our edge browser isnt doing as good as we hoped, its at 1.64%

MS Exec 2: yeah and some have issues with our updates, we sometimes have them give up and use Chrome or Firefox instead.

MS exec 1: yeah but there is good news, I see that one user is back with us raising our browser market share up 0.000,000,000,001%!

MS exec 2: yes another user, lord Bill Gates be Praised!
