I have windows 10 pro with its firewall and a/v. I also have MBAM trial and am behind a router. I used chrome to try to find an instructional video on YouTube and got 9 Trojans at once.

MBAM was able to quarantine and remove them luckily.

I guess it can happen to anyone regardless of your defense but it got me to thinking if my security was ample.

What would you advise a conservative elderly mid level user?

Hi,

Looking good. Except for the restriction. This fix will take care of it.

Press the Windows key + r on your keyboard at the same time. This will open the RUN BOX.
Type Notepad and and click the OK key.

Please copy the entire contents of the code box below to a new file.

Start

CreateRestorePoint:
EmptyTemp:
CloseProcesses:

GroupPolicy: Restriction <==== ATTENTION

End
Save the file as fixlist.txt in the same folder where the Farbar tool is running from.
The location is listed in the 3rd line of the Farbar log you have submitted.

Run FRST and click Fix only once and wait.

The tool will create a log (Fixlog.txt) please post it to your reply.

Please let me know if you have any problems

I am sorry but I have removed the workI had submitted as I never expected this.

Is there a way I can remediate this? I am concerned about the restriction but don't even know what it means. I hope it is not serious!

I also was reading your further instructions and am not skilled enough to grasp it.

Is there another way to fix the issue?

I should have waited - sorry.

Hi,

try to find an instructional video on YouTube and got 9 Trojans at once.

The restriction was probably set by the infection. Malwarebytes does not check for these settings.

===

==================== Security Center ========================

(If an entry is included in the fixlist, it will be removed.)

AV: Windows Defender (Enabled - Up to date) {D68DDC3A-831F-4fae-9E44-DA132C1ACF46}
AS: Windows Defender (Enabled - Up to date) {D68DDC3A-831F-4fae-9E44-DA132C1ACF46}

With windows 10 this is a decent defence.

Your Windows Firewall is enabled that is good.

If you can aford it get the Paid Malwarebytes program.
This will prevent such infection in the future.

No security software including MBAM will not always be be able to protect you 100% of the time.
New Virus, trojans etc are created everyday. Your best defence is to keep your programs updated.

This is a tool that you can download and run when you have popups, or a slow computer.
When you execute the program it will also look for the latest version. If one if found you will be prompted to update it. Do it.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click the Scan button and wait for the process to complete.
  • Click the LogFile button and the report will open in Notepad.
IMPORTANT
  • If you click the Clean button all items listed in the report will be removed.
If you find some false positive items or programs that you wish to keep, Close the AdwCleaner windows.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click the Scan button and wait for the process to complete.
  • Check off the element(s) you wish to keep.
  • Click on the Clean button follow the prompts.
  • A log file will automatically open after the scan has finished.
  • Please post the content of that log file with your next answer.
  • You can find the log file at C:\AdwCleanerCx.txt (x is a number).

With all the adjustments I made with the computer I decided to recover with Macrium.

I have run MBAM etc and all seems well.

I want to keep this page bookmarked to see if I can figure out the directions you have given me.

It was more than nice of you to do  all this work and I want to make use of it.

Thanks again for your patience and help.
