I have a Windows XP machine that starts normally but will lock up (100% CPU) every few minutes.

This happens even when no applications are running, other than Task Manager.

It happened suddenly, so I suspect there may have been a virus attack.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

This thread is a duplicate of one with the same title in the "Am I infected? What do I do?" (AII) forum:  XP Machine at 100% CPU Every Few Minutes

In keeping with Bleeping Computer's convention of "one computer, one problem, one forum," and to prevent confusion this thread is being locked.  A response already exists on the AII forum.
