My question is simply:  Is Windows Server also known as Windows Server Standard or are they different versions?  Thank you.

There are different versions. Server 2012 foundations, Server 2012 Essentials, Server 2012 Standard, and Server 2012 Data center. See here: https://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/wiki/Windows_Server_2012_Editions_comparison
