Hi all.  Hope everyone is doing well.

You guys have helped me out before and would love some help again.

Basics:

Latest version of Firefox

Full version of Malwarebytes

XP Pro SP3

I brought the computer out of mothballs to run an online radio station from my home.  I use shoutcast for that and to run it, I have ports 8000 and 8001 TCP open (if you guys think another set of ports would be more secure, I can pick whichever I want with my shoutcast system, please advise).  For the music I run iTunes, which uses bonjour service for access from other devices on the network to change playlists, etc.

It has worked fine for a few months, but all of a sudden Firefox will only run if I turn off Mbytes.  Also, at approx. the same time, the bonjour svc stopped working as well.  I reloaded iTunes, and bonjour worked for awhile, but now it is back to not running, despite showing up in services as running and in the task manager.

What have I done?  I've just run a full scan w/ Mbytes, and it found no problems.

What do you guys think?  Ted

One thing that I've noticed with my system-defense software...programs will shut down browsers while doing a system scan.  With some programs, if I use the browser while a scan is going on...the system will slow down and become slightly erratic...probably because I'm trying to use a browser and the software is trying to stop/prevent browser usage until the scan is complete.

Makes sense to me.

Louis

I also use Firefox as my XP browser.

Installing the new 3.3.x version of MWB should sort this now.  Alternatively, drop down to MWB Free, which doesn't cause the same problem.

(If you go to the MWB forums you'll find a LOT of discussion on this!)

When you're having issues with Malwarebytes, one of the solutions generally suggested by the Help Desk to try first is to reinstall or uninstall/reinstall after using mb-clean.exe:
