I have some saved tabs which are not all suspended by the chrome "great suspender" extension.

As a result, some of them end up being irrecoverably cannibalized by starbucks wifi for instance which really infuriates me...

Is there any solution?

Try using bookmarks/favourites instead of leaving tabs open. Then if a tab gets closed, for whatever reason, it takes a second or two to get back to it.
