Hi, I've posted on here a few months ago but my BSOD problem seemed to disappear for a while, however, now it's regularly occurring, at least once a day. With my exams coming up I'm starting to get worried about the stability of my computer.

Like I've said in a previous post, I've come to suspect that it's possibly my RAM, but I'd just like an expert opinion/how to fix it. Over the past 5 days, I've had at least 3 blue screens.

What I've noticed is that I'm beginning to run into a lot of issues. My PC is primarily for 1. school work and 2. games. Recently, my apps have begun to randomly stop working for example - Discord would close upon startup, my computer would run extremely slow, my games would crash for no reason, I wouldn't be able to close a program and Chrome would stop functioning and stay on the 'Oh Snap' screen regardless of how many tabs are opened. Sometimes,  programs execute themselves, and I'd like to get this problem solved ASAP in preparation for my exams.

 OS - Windows 10

· x64
· What was original installed OS on system? - Windows 7
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? - ? Downloaded with free update?
· Age of system (hardware) - Roughly 2.5 years old
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? - No?

· CPU - i3-4160 @3.60 GHz
· Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 (Gainward)
· MotherBoard - Gigabyte H81M-HD3
· Power Supply - Corsair VS550

· Built it myself

· Desktop

Thank you so much for your time, I hope to get this problem solved.

Never mind sorry for the inconvenience. I figured out how to get more space for uploading.

(I wasn't able to upload BSOD files)

Your UEFI/BIOS (version F4) dates from 2013.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.
FYI - W8 and W10 communicate more with the UEFI/BIOS than previous versions of Windows, so it's important to ensure that the UEFI/BIOS is kept up to date (and the outdated UEFI/BIOS' may be the cause of some compatibility issues).

Only 3 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most build 15063 (1703) systems have more than this.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available Windows Updates.
The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.

Out of 23 memory dumps there were 12 different BSOD  (aka STOP or BugCheck) error codes (3 of these mention hardware failure specifically).  The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things (the list is not in any sort of order):
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case.  Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- overfull hard drives (drives with less than 15% free space)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html or http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html ).

Please get a start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
Please finish ALL of them and let us know the results.

Please update these older drivers.  Links are provided in order to assist you with looking up the source of the drivers.
If unable to find an update, please uninstall the program that is responsible for that driver.

DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable!!!:

Hi,

I have reset my PC. Currently I have updated the outdated drivers as advised and updated my motherboard's BIOS. I've checked and my desktop is relatively dust free, I'm also pretty sure I'm not overclocking anything. I've run Windows Updates to the extent where it says there are no longer any updates.

Regarding the compatibility issues, I'm unsure as to how to check this. The hard drive cannot be full now as I fully reset my PC. No malware has been detected using the provided scans. I am planning to run memtest and the HDD test tonight.

Note I've only received one blue screen during this period and this was whilst I was updating my audio driver (this was also before I updated my motherboard BIOS, not sure if relevant). I will attach the dump file below.

Compatibility issues are actually easy to troubleshoot - but are generally a bit painful to do.

The thing for them is to clean install the OS that the system was originally released with.

If it's a hardware issue, generally a lone memory dump won't confirm that (and it may actually be misleading).
Have you started with the hardware diagnostics that I suggested?  If so, what were the results?

How did you "reset" your PC?  Did you use new installation media?  Was it a "clean" install (one with no 3rd party programs installed)?

The BIOS has been updated to after the release of W10 in 2015 (either August or November - depending on your date/time settings)
That's more likely to be compatible than the 2014 version - but still it's awfully old.
Unfortunately, there's not much you can do with that unless the manufacturer decides to release a newer version.

In short, I still think that this is a hardware issue, and that you'll have to start with the hardware diagnostics.
Alternatively, you can do a "clean" install of Windows 10 to determine if the problem is likely to be hardware or software:

A clean install is:
- Windows is installed to a freshly partitioned hard drive with legitimate installation media (W10:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 ).
- The installation media is only a copy of Windows, not the OEM recovery disks that you can make on some systems.
- Windows is fully updated after it's installed.  That's ALL updates - none excepted.
- NO 3rd party software is installed.
- There are no errors in Device Manager (if you find any, post back for suggestions).

This will wipe everything off of the computer, so it's advisable to backup your stuff first.
Also, it will wipe out all the special software that the OEM added to the system, so if you rely on any of that - let us know what it is so we can figure out a way to save/download it (the easiest way is to create/obtain the OEM;s recovery media)

If unable to find recovery media that has the software (or if you suspect that this is a hardware problem), you can make an image of your system that'll preserve everything in the state that it was in when you made the image.
One drawback to this is that you're making an image of a malfunctioning system - so, if there are errors in the system software, you'll have a nice copy of them :(
Another drawback is that the image of the system will be very large - so you'll most likely need a large external drive to store it on.
But, this will allow you to save everything on the hard drive (although you'll need an image viewer to get things out of the image).
The point here is that, if it's a hardware problem, then you can restore the system to the point it was when you made the image - after you repair the hardware problem.
You can obtain more info on imaging in the Backup/Imaging/DiskMgmt forums located here:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/238/backup-imaging-and-disk-management-software/

The point of doing this (the clean install) is to:
- rule out Windows as a problem (if the problem continues, it's not a Windows problem as you completely replaced Windows
- rule out 3rd party software (if the problem continues, it's not a 3rd party software problem as you didn't install any 3rd party software)
- so, if the problem continues, it must be a hardware problem.

OTOH, if the problem stops, then it was either a Windows or 3rd party software problem.  If the problem doesn't come back, then you've fixed it.  Then all that remains is setting the computer back up the way that you'd like it and importing your data from the backup you made.

I reset the computer from windows options i.e. I reinstalled a fresh version of Windows 10. I also just ran memtest and errors popped up immediately. Will post to let you know whether it's both sticks or one.

UPDATE: Currently testing both ram separately now. The first one gave me errors straight away, however i'm now testing the other ram and there seems to be no problem. Could this be the cause of my blue screens? I feel as if theres another problem as this is a recurring event which happened previously. Last time I had to replace my ram after about a years use.

The bad RAM could definitely be the cause of the BSOD's.

Run the system with the one good stick for a while and see if that has fixed the problems.

What's the brand of the RAM?  Does it have a warranty?

Repeated replacement of the RAM could be due to power surges or other events.
Post over in the Internal Hardware forums to start a discussion about this:    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/7/internal-hardware/

Have been running the system with the good stick for about 2 days, haven't run into any problems and all the application issues seem to have died down. Only problem is that the comp is noticeable slower, but I guess that's to be expected?

The ram is a Patriot Signature 4 GB DDR 1600.  The shop I bought it from only offers a 1 year warranty I think, but the company itself offers lifetime warranty?
