Hello: I am an older person with a 4k monitor.  I need to use Windows 10 Magnifier for text that is too small to read or work with.  I've already set my desktop resolution to magnify text 350%.  That works for most software, but not all.  I turned on Magnifier, but the magnified screen is completely black.  Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can adjust Windows so I have a clear screen under the Magnifier?  I also have transparency turned on.  Note, I joined recently so find my hello in the general discussion.

Welcome.

Would you mind identifying the programs that are showing black/opaque when used with Windows Magnifier?  It's much easier to move this along if I (or anyone else) can replicate your problem on our computers.

Hi Bri the Tech Guy,  Thanks for the quick response.  I am running Folding@Home 24/7, but the Magnifier screen is black even on the Ease of Access screen when I first turn it on.  I am not using High Contrast Colors.  I read on Microsoft's Tech Forum that High Contrast Colors can cause this to happen.  I have tried High Contrast Colors in the past and I had a devil of a time turning it off.  I have used Magnifier in the past and had no problems, even with Folding@Home running.  I still wonder if High Contrast Colors somehow is causing my problem, even though it is now turned off.  I found out how to turn off High Contrast Colors from a Microsoft MVP on the Microsoft Tech Forum.

Given what you describe as far as your vision (350% magnification is HUGE) you would probably be classed as an assistive technology user by Microsoft.  You need Magnifier for accessibility.

Microsoft offers technical support free of cost to users of assistive technology.

See:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/disability-answer-desk and give them a call at the 800 number during the hours listed on that page.

If they can't fix your issue then please come back.  If they do fix your issue please come back and share how that was done for future readers.

Did the magnifier ever work after you bumped up to 350%?
