Dear guys,

I wanted to check the system with Malwarebytes and Emsisoft Emergency Kit

I run a scan and noticed that Emsisoft (only it) found in firefox cache a virus called bitcoinminer.sx (GZIP) and then I found in the description something like krnl.xmd

I finished run the scan and deleted the file via the program

Everything should be fine now?

Also I noticed (maybe is normal firefox behaviour now after so many updates) that it has multiple instances of himself when I open it

When you say "Firefox has multiple instances..." is that "multiple processess"? If so, are you closing Firefox with multiple tabs opened?

Do you have GZIP installed on the computer?

Use the programs below to clean, remove adware and remove malware.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the

Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.

After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit (MBAR) to your desktop.

  • Warning! Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit needs to be run from an account with administrator rights.
  • Double click on downloaded file. OK self extracting prompt.
  • MBAR will start. Click "Next" to continue.
  • Click in the following screen "Update" to obtain the latest malware definitions.
  • Once the update is complete select "Next" and click "Scan".
  • When the scan is finished and no malware has been found select "Exit".
  • If malware was detected, make sure to check all the items and click "Cleanup". Reboot your computer.
  • Open the MBAR folder located on your Desktop and paste the content of the following file in your next reply:
  • "mbar-log-{date} (xx-xx-xx).txt"

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop. (compatible with Windows 7, 8 and 10)

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan button.
  • When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
  • download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message

Also CCleaner installation, even if clicking more, customize etc etc, seems to have no Google related things, but when I check the programs in Clean it shows google chrome, I am sure I don't have it, not even installed it since I use only firefox...

How do I proceed to remove chrome now?

If chrome or Chromium is not listed in your list of installed programs...then ignore the CCleaner listing.

Open AdwCleaner and click on Uninstall to remove any quarantined items.

Right click on Junkware Removal Tool and choose to Delete to remove completely quarantined items.

Once you have done the two items above you will need to reinstall both before scanning with them.

Last scan...

  • download Security Check by glax24 and save the file to the Desktop
  • Run the tool by accepting all the Security prompts
  • when complete the tool will produce a log file C:\SecurityCheck\SecurityCheck.txt and also copy the contents to the Clipboard
  • Simply Paste the log to your reply

Those are temporary files. Temp files get created everytime you use the computer. Run CCleaner and see what it removes....a lot of temporary files.

Oh indeed man you are right, but WHY JTR always deletes them? I mean are those "bad" files? or JTR is just removing them because they are temporary files and actually not "bad" ones

One more thing: after installing ccleaner and running Emsisoft it found 2 registry key calles rasmancs and rasapi (I assume is ccleaner because a google search reported that those are relative to ccleaner)

Yes...JRT is being thorough. Doesn't mean that the temp files were harmful. That's one of the reasons I always ask CCleaner to be used before

scanning with security programs. Cuts down on scanning time.

I see those same files being identified as belonging to web updater...a program that MBAM would remove as a PUP. So, those are likely

leftovers. I couldn't confirm what you report their being part of CCleaner. Would like to see that reference if you still have a link to the site

reporting that.

See RASAPI32 and RASMANCS.png (PNG Image, 1168 × 602 pixels)

After rebooting without opening firefox I runned scans with Emsisoft, malwarebytes antimalware, adwcleaner, antirootkit, eset online and JRT

Nothing found so far, should I consider my system clean?
