Hello, I'm here to ask for help about deleting a folder in my Downloads folder. When you try and delete it normally it says you need administrator's permission but I am the administrator of this computer. I have also tried to delete it using CMD through what I learned online using rd /s /q something but it says "Access is denied" even in Admin mode of CMD. I also tried taking ownership of the folder but I can't change the "Owner:" part of the properties because it just moves on to a window with "You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings.". Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

This usually indicates the file or folder is being used by another process. Does the folder delete when in Safe Mode?

Hey, thanks for replying. I made sure that it wasn't used in another process but while I was posting this inquiry, I accidentally hovered into the Downloads folder and to my surprise it was gone already (LOL). Although this has happened to me twice already, I just would like to know what are the possible steps on deleting the folder next time it occurs. And no, I haven't tried deleting it in Safe Mode. Is that sure to work? And please guide me in booting to and from safe mode in Win10 OS because I forgot how to do it and so I'll have basis of steps next time. Thanks :)

Here are the methods for booting to Safe Mode in Windows 10. If the file or folder cannot be deleted in Safe Mode I then boot a live linux disk to delete as that works outside of Windows permissions.

If you can not delete a folder and you get "access denied", it's because of permissions.

If it's because the folder is open in a process (i.e. handle to the folder open in a process), you will get a message like this: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Who was the owner of the folder you could not remove?
