I have an ASUS Q200E notebook with a display that isn't working at all.  It's lines across the screen, nothing is legible.

Is it possible to set up a tablet or notebook as an external monitor for it?

I don't think that is possible as all video ports on a laptop or notebook are for outputting a video signal, not for inputting one. If the ASUS has a HDMI port you could connect to a TV with HDMI ports.

One can download software to use a tablet as an external monitor.  But the software I looked at, had to be installed on both the notebook and the tablet.  I can't install anything on my notebook right now.

Interesting. Can you provide a link to the software?

ps  A tablet can be used in many ways!  My notebook's camera stopped working a few weeks ago, and I downloaded software to use it as a webcam.

It is possible, but you're going to have to install something on the broken computer.  I'd suggest finding the software you want and then find an external monitor to borrow so that you can install the software.
