I must preface that i am totally clueless on the subject, otherwise I wouldn't screw up so badly my outlook.

I have googled and read up on this but still don't know how to resolve this.

I had a nicely working (legal) version of outlook on my computer. Then I had to purchase a new one. I exported and saved all the emails. The setup was to download all emails to desktop and then delete off the google server (or where ever they stored it). worked perfect.

Got the new computer, and tried to set up again the same way and to restore the backup from the file i exported. What a mess!

I have set up for 2 ways in my account on outlook on my computer, one is pop (whatever) and the other is imap or some such. I can now not see my old emails on web gmail (the account is gmail account that was downloaded into outlook) or new emails on desktop. As a matter of fact, things are so bad that the only way I can open outlook is to disconnect internet and then open it so the mess wouldn't get worse.

I would appreciate some guidance on how to sort this out as i prefer to have emails only in outlook and not on server.

Please help! thank you in advance.
