When I look for updates, one I tried was KB4038777. It downloaded but won't install. It give me an error code 80073701 and 80246007. I've looked thru the Windows forum but got no answer. Do I need to proceed trying to find the problem or just forget it??? I've downloaded it several times, same answer, maybe a diff error code but won't install.

If you already have downloaded it double click the file. If it looks like it's taking forever searching for updates then go to services and stop Windows Automatic Update or simply reboot and immediately double click the file as the Windows Update Service has a delayed startup.

My windows update action says it downloaded the upgrade.  It says the "installation" FAILED.  Just got another "rollup" this am. Same thing happened. Downloaded but installation failed????????

I don't have the windows update action set to automatic. It's set so I can deciede which ones I want  first. I think this question wss asked earlier.

Thanks Pinegum

If you don't want to use the auto-update feature...the simple answer is to turn it off.

You can do so by clicking on Windows Update...click Change Settings, elect to NEVER check.

I think you should open with more detail.  On a new install this probably won't install, you will need to follow a Clean Install Procedure.  Is this a new Install, or has it worked well for a period of time and now won't Update?

You only need to click on the Update Package and it will install automatically if it's prerequisites are met.  Maybe Auto Updates needs to be Turned Off first, on some Updates this may be true.

Downloads go to Downloads by Default, so it should be there?

Download and run the Update Readiness Tool. Then try to install the update again.
