Hello,

I am attempting to install SP1 for Vista 32x. The installation has failed countless times. I have attempted just about every suggestion I could find through research online with no luck. It always fails after the computer resets and the installation hits 2%. I get the error code 0x800F0826. I don't particularly need SP1, but I need Vista to recognize an exFat formatted external hard drive. To my knowledge, that is the only way to get Vista to recognize exFat? Currently, the system is only recognizing NTFS. Fat32 will not work as I have files over the 4GB limit. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How are you trying to install sp1? Are you trying to do it through the standalone installer?

Did you install the pre-requisite updates? Please read these two pages.

Linux Mint 18 can read exFat. You could boot a live DVD of Mint 18 and pull the data from the external, copying to your internal drive. Then reformat the external to NTFS.

For this computer I would use Mate. How much RAM does the computer have?

I have tried standalone installs as well as through Windows update. Neither have worked. I will try the pre-requisite updates in a moment. To be honest, I am not sure if I have done those. I have attempted so many methods at this point, that I can no longer remember. If I had to guess, I'd guess that I have and they were unsuccessful.

What I am trying to do is, pull files from my Vista desktop onto my external drive. I can format the external drive to whatever I need. However, I am wanting to play the files on a PS4 which will not read NTFS. However, the external will plug and play through the PS4 media player when formatted in exFat.

RAM is 2037 MB, I believe.

If installing the pre-requisites do not work then then use Mate.
