I purchased a Lite-On 16x DVD burner, and it works perfectly, except for one small hitch, it does not show up. I know a decent amount about computers, so I manually scanned for it in the device manager and, voila, it appeared. Having to do this every single time I restart my computer is a slight annoyance.

BIOS recognizes it, Windows XP (SP2) simply does not show it in my computer. It's not a serious problem, but if there are any quick fixes, I'd be grateful.

Have you loaded the most updated version of your motherboard/chipset drivers?

Otherwise I'd try SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from the Run dialog. Have your XP installation CD handy in case it asks for it. If it does ask for it, visit Windows Update immediately afterwards to ensure that your updates are current.

Then, if that doesn't work, I'd suggest a repair install of XP: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Then, if that doesn't work, I'd start suspecting that there may be a problem with the drive itself.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
