Hi. My home WiFi seems to be fine for my laptop but my iPhone doesn't like it. The iPhone slows down so much on my home WiFi that it basically doesn't work. Any thoughts on why this could be?

Thanks.

What is the distance from the router / access point that you are attempting to use the iPhone?

Yes, the WiFi works well with my laptop at all places in the apartment. the distance from the router is no more than maybe 12-15 feet at most. Even when the iPhone is fairly close the router - within 5 feet or so - the speed is incredibly slow.

Do you have any streaming services running like Netflix or Hulu? Do you have any MMORPG Games going on the network when you experience the slow performance of your phone?

I have Netfilx. But the slowness on the iPhone is present when Netfilx is off.

Interesting, what kind of wireless router do you have?

The router came with the Time Warner Cable setup. I think it's Scientific American but I'm not 100% sure.

( Unless you have your settings to save energy/power on your iphone, which reduces the amount it uses, like you might not get a notification or applications wont function the same if that option is turned on in settings, if not )

I can suggest something that I did, i had many devices run very slow on wifi but sometimes they'd be really fast.. I checked for channels and I noticed that my router was using the same channel as our neighbors. ( Altho it's set to Automatic, it doesn't always choose the best one for me..)

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wifi_information_view.html

( If you don't want to download this, there's even phone applications that showed channels being used ) just take a look and see if you're being on the same channels as your neighbors and it could be the reason that your wifi is acting like that on certain devices.

For me we had so many neighbors using the same channel as ours, so i chose the furthest one from them and my internet went perfectly so much faster for over a year to this day now.

Again, that was my issue and the solution that 100% fixed it for the long term, but as i wrote on the first line, make sure you don't have certain options/settings on in your iphone that's causing a reduction in internet speed :P

Try turning off and on your router. Then, clear your cache, cookies and history in your iPhone. Then, turn off and on your iPhone. Does it work now? :)

Are there any negative effects or is there a downside to clearing the cache, cookies, and history?

Thanks.

Your passwords and history will be deleted and you will have to re-type them the first time when you get into a website. After the first time they will once again be saved forever.:)
