(Not sure if this is the correct forum for the topic but I do run Win7.)

The past few days CPU usage has been sometimes 100% with the fan running nonstop.

I have been watching the Task Manager and I noticed that Firefox shows up in TM not once, but twice, sometimes three or four times, with varying memory usage.

Right now for instance it says this:

Firefox.exe  *32           223,860 K

Firefox.exe  *32             77,256 K

Firefox.exe  *32             17,104 K

I have ONE tab open, this one I'm in right now.

Any ideas about this? When I log out of FF by the way, the whole system calms down.

Also Malwarebytes uses a lot, over 300K.

I am worried to burn out my hard drive.

A few months ago I bought a new internal battery so I doubt it has anything to do with that.

Maybe the age of the unit? Is my laptop about to bite the dust?

What is the size of Firefox's cache pot?  I found out long ago that Firefox can generate cache files numbering upwards to 20,000+-.

C:\Users\[your account]\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\njrn6og4.default\cache2\entries

Your FF path might be different, I'm using Windows 7 Professional.

Whoa - what??

Ok, I cleared it. Do I need to restart anything? Because not according to TM Firefox is running unchanged. :(

anyway, thanks, Roland. Was worth a try.
