Hey all, great forum here curious if anyone can help?

HP Compaq desktop tower won't turn on: when I press the power button, a red light turns on and then 9 consecutive "beeps" begin, each around 1 second. It then just auto shuts off (can't access the load screen one bit).

I'm not too PC hardware savvy. Does anyone know how to fix this-diagnosis and steps for doing so?

Thanks a bunch...

It would help if you post the model of this HP Compaq.

Adding to the previous posters, have you already tried cold/warm-booting with only a monitor, keyboard and mouse attached?  I'm wondering if there is a short within an external device that is sending a shut-down signal to the power supply.  An internal device with a short can also trigger a shut-down/power down.  Years ago, during similar phone tech calls -- we would often have end-user re-seat everything within the desktop, just in case something got bumped out of place or "oxidized".
