I have tried but failed to get my iexploer updated through windows update.

It seemed like a Microsoft inc's problem and initially I thought it was not a biggie.

Today suddenly it took forever to launch Microsoft WORD and every WORD file opens as "read-only".

I ran an adw cleaner scan and it appeared to pick up something in Registry, which I believe is stored under iexplorer. Unfortunately, adw cleaner could not clean those files and hung during the cleaning process (error caught unknown handled exception, terminating). It seems that the adw cleaner version (new) has a bug and the team behind it is fixing the bug. I ran malwarebyte and it did not pick up anything under iexplorer.

Q1. other than windows update, is there any way I can update or uninstall iexplorer ??

Q2. if malwarebyte didn't pick up anything, is it safe to assume the files adw cleaner picked up are false positive and the laptop is clean.

Q3. it appears that the WORD "read-only" is an old problem from MS WORD. Any solution other than windows update ??

help on any question is appreciated.
