Hello everyone.

Unfortunately, I can't post a screen shot of my specs, but I have a MSI GE72 2QF Apache Pro laptop, running Windows 10 which came with the laptop (updated to Creator's Update very recently) in 64bits. Its not quite two years old, the CPU is an i7 and the graphics card is a Nvidia GTX970m.

I've attached the latest dumps I was able to retrieve, though since I have updated my drivers. After updating a number of them, including for the processor, I got more BSODs, but no dump files.

I hope you guys and girls can help!

Thank you,

Peripple.

PS: here's a link to the dumps, i don't seem to be allowed to upload files directly.

Edit: also, sorry i can't run Sysnative either... :-(

Sorry, double post

Just to add, my computer seems to be fine once I've managed to start it up. It can run for hours  and run intensive programs without crashing, the BSODs usually arrive within a few minutes of startup (or even before) or when getting out of sleep mode.

You have to ZIP files to upload them (there are others permitted, but it's just as easy to .ZIP everything (not .RAR, .7z, etc)

For those reading this, the download site is in French - use Google Translate to figure out which button to press for the download.

Please run this report collecting tool so that we can provide a complete analysis: (from the pinned topic at the top of the forum)   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/
NOTE:  On problem systems it can take up to 20 minutes for the log files to complete.  Please be patient and let it run.

If you still have problems with it running, there's an alternate tool here (direct download link):  https://github.com/blueelvis/BSOD-Inspector/releases/download/1.0.5/BSODInspector-1.0.5.exe

NOTE:
Please zip up the (.ZIP) files - do not use .RAR, .7z or other compression utilities.
.ZIP is the type file that can be uploaded to the forums.

The memory dumps mostly blame your wifi drivers, but there is some involvement with Trend Micro and the HAL.dll driver.
We'll start with some software fixes, but be aware that this could also be a hardware problem.

First, uninstall TrendMicro temporarily.  You can reinstall a fresh copy once we've finished troubleshooting.

Make sure that Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall are activated and updated while we're testing.

Then, download and install a fresh copy of the latest, Windows 10 compatible wifi drivers from the MSI support site for your model (this in an Intel wireless card - in case MSI offers different cards).

Please uninstall PowerISO as it's drivers date from 2010 and may not be compatible w/W10.

Please uninstall Eve as it's drivers date from 2013 and may not be compatible w/W10

Please uninstall MSI SuperCharger, as it's driver (NTIOLib_X64.sys) dates from 2012 and is known to cause BSOD's in some Windows installations.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version E1791IMS.113) dates from 2016.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  This is just in case there has been a more recent update.
FYI - W8 and W10 communicate more with the UEFI/BIOS than previous versions of Windows, so it's important to ensure that the UEFI/BIOS is kept up to date (and that outdated UEFI/BIOS' may be the cause of some compatibility issues).

I cannot tell the number of Windows Update hotfixes you have installed for this version of your OS,  so please double check for any new Windows Updates.  It only takes one update to cause a problem, so it's essential that you have all of them.  The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.

Please update these older drivers.  Links are provided in order to assist you with looking up the source of the drivers.
If unable to find an update, please uninstall the program that is responsible for that driver.

DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable!!!:

Hello,

Wow, I didn't expect such a full answer! thanks a lot for taking the time!!!

By posting on another forum, someone recommended a program called WhoCrashed. It basically told me similar things but less detailed, it seemed to say the hal.dll was linked to the wifi drivers. My wifi drivers were up to date, but i reinstalled them via intel's site (msi's isn't up to date), and since then I haven't had a problem (yet, but then again I haven't used my computer much). I checked for the BIOS and all other drivers and they are up to date already.

After your post I also uninstalled MSI supercharger and the VSO EVE, not Poweriso since I actively use it ; but if I still have problems I'll uninstall it.

Thanks again for your time and hel^,

hal.dll is a low-level driver that helps the OS communicate with the hardware.
Typically when I see hal.dll in the stack trace (NOT in WhoCrashed), I tend to look for hardware or compatibility issues.
BUT, it can also be software issues (mostly with lower level drivers).

In most cases I suggest simply updating drivers.
In more severe cases I suggest uninstalling the program that installed the drivers, then installing a freshly downloaded copy.
This helps to ensure that files that could be corrupted are removed (sometimes an update won't remove drivers of the same name).

I'd uninstall PowerISO, then download and install a freshly downloaded copy from the PowerISO site.

Good luck!

Hello, it's me again!

My computer was fine for a time, but has now started acting up again. Admittedly, I hadn't been using it all that much. Funnily enough, my computer seems to crash more when I'm at my girlfriend's than at my place (where my computer has difficulties connecting to the wifi and keeps disconnecting and reconnecting). So, I already had uninstalled and reinstalled my wi-fi drivers. I uninstalled PowerIso, as recommended (though I admit I didn't do it until today), and still get some BSODs. Also, my laptop is now having trouble shutting down: the screen goes blank, but the keyboard stays lit and I can hear the fans turning quite fast. When I look at the full memory.dmp it says that intel's wifi is to blame, but the minidumps point to hal.dll

I hope someone can be of help!
Thanks for all you've already done,
Peripple

Edit: I got a different kind of dumpfile, talking about ntoskrnl.exe ; I've attached it.

Although you appear to have a reasonable number of Windows Update hotfixes for this version of your OS, please double check for any new Windows Updates.  It only takes one update to cause a problem, so it's essential that you have all of them.  The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.

Please uninstall MSI Dragoon Gaming Center.  It's driver (winio64.sys) dates from 2010 and may not be compatible w/W10.

Most of the latest BSOD's are ZEROED_STACK errors.  This, IMO, is most often due to a hardware problem.
Please start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Please finish ALL of the tests and let us know the results - we can move on from there.

Hi,

According to MSI, my BIOS is up to date.

I ran the tests you told me to, and no errors were found. I've attached the memtest and prime results. I ran both HD Tune and Seagate on both my hard drives without any damage found.

I found in the Reliability Monitor that audiodg.exe seemed to be causing problems, so I uninstalled Nahimic since it seemed to be related to it. I've also uninstalled or stopped a few other programs from starting automatically. This hasn't resolved the issue though.

Since the tests found no hardware failures, I'm going to suppose it's to do with software, especially as I seem to have better luck shutting down when I go into settings -> Update and security -> Recovery and choose "restart now" before choosing the "turn the pc off". It seems as though a program is preventing shutdown.

Thanks, yet again,
Peripple

Are you still having BSOD's?

Also, check in C:\Windows\Minidump to see if there are any memory dumps dated after 19 August.  If so, please zip them up and upload them.

If it won't zip there, copy them to your Desktop and zip them up there.

If it's just shutdown that's affected, that's most likely due to a problem with:

- BIOS/UEFI

- chipset drivers

- Intel drivers (RST, MEI, DPFT, etc)

- video drivers

- storage drivers

Update all of them.  If possible, uninstall the old version before installing the new version

I'm not having any BSODs at the moment, and haven't had any new minidumps! Though, once again, I'm not on my girlfriend's network where BSODs mostly occur.

I updated my drivers again (including PCI which was causing problems apparently, though a week ago it was not a problem) and updated my BIOS (even though it was up to date already), and since then I haven't had any problems! Thanks a lot, I hope the problem is finally solved!!

A (hopefully) final message:

A few days after my last post I went back to my girlfriend's and.. my computer crashed again! I rolled back to some older wifi drivers from 2014 and the crashes immediately stopped. I then moved on to some more recent drivers (february 2015) since the 2014 ones didn't accept 5GHz connections and I use those sometimes. So the problem was indeed the wifi drivers all along, but only on one specific network (where the connection was bad). I find this particularly odd, and just as strange is the fact that when I rolled back using the intel driver installer my laptop still crashed but when I did it by going through the device manager, which shows the dates of the various drivers, it worked.

"Nothing succeeds like success!"  Great work!

I'm glad that you figured it out, and that you posted your experiences here.

This will help others who come looking for help with similar problems (and this one is a very perplexing one!).

Quick update: after the latest feature update earlier this month, I have the same problem, still only at my girlfriend's.. I've put the drivers back to february 22nd 2015 (they had automatically updated) and am hoping for the best!
