Hi
Since my windows updated automatically I haven't been able to open microsoft edge. The "e" flashes up and then it closes.
I have tried deleting the updates and a couple of things I found on google - scanning and removing the group profile but to no avail.
As removing the update didn't work I have reinstalled the update.
I am using windows 10 pro, build number 15063

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ian

Resetting Microsoft Edge settings to default and reinstalling Microsoft Edge may help.

When you reset Microsoft Edge, it will also delete all of your favorites in Microsoft Edge.

If wanted, you should back up your favorites in Microsoft Edge first.

1. Open Windows PowerShell by pressing the BxVxp04.png + S keys to open Search.

 2. Type powershell into search box.

 3. Right click the Windows PowerShell in the search results and select Run as administrator

 4. Execute following command:

remove-item $env:localappdata\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\* -recurse -Force

 5. Execute following command:

Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -Verbose}

 6. Restart your computer.

Hi

I got lots of red error messages at point 4. Point 5 seemed to run ok but sadly edge still will not work.

I am not sure what update it was, the pc just did it automatically

You have permission problem you can execute following command to enable hidden administrator user account and execute powershell commands from hidden administrator user account.

Net user Administrator /active:yes

After finish executing powershell commands you can use following command to disable hidden administrator user account.

I would like you to check the system integrity of your Windows OS installation.

  • Please type cmd.exe into Start Menu search box.
  • Please right click cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Please type the following command and press the <Enter> key: sfc /scannow (Please note that there is a space between 'sfc" and "/scannow".)
  • It should take about 20 minutes to run, if there are no serious errors.
  • If the System File Checker reports that some errors were fixed, but some remain; please reboot your computer and run the System File Checker from an Administrator Command Prompt, again.
  • If the System File Checker again reports that some errors were fixed, but some remain, please reboot your computer and run it a third time.
  • If "Resource Integrity Violations" (errors) are reported that could not be corrected, or were not corrected after a third SFC run, then please navigate to the folder: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and copy the file "cbs.log" to your desktop immediately. I am asking you do that because that file is dynamic, so I want to be able to examine a copy that is unchanged from the time that the System File Checker was run.
  • If there are errors that couldn't be corrected, let me know and I will provide you with instructions as to how to upload the file

Please try the below step to fix .

  1. Open the Task manager.  Here’s a tip:  Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
  2. Click File > Run New Task
  3. Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  4. Type Powershell

Type the following in the Powershell prompt:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

  1. Wait for PowerShell to execute and complete the command. Ignore the few errors (in red color) that may pop up.
  2. When it finishes, try hitting Start and hopefully it’ll start working.

Hi

Sorry for the slow response, had a family emergency.

The sfc /scannow produced no errors

Have run the powershell command.

Edge still wont open.

The laptop is also quite slow and unresponsive
