Hi
Have repeatedly format the system but still everytime after one day of use it starts to through black screen after boot. This all started after my laptop fell from few centimeter height, just after the incident it was working but after 1 day it started showing black screen. Please refer to the text file created after running fabar recovery tool. Please let me know if its hardware issue or software issue like virus.

Thanks

Greetings Ankur15 and :welcome: to BleepingComputer's Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal forum.

My name is Oh My! and I am here to help you! Now that we are "friends" please call me Gary.

If you would allow me to call you by your first name I would prefer to do that.

===================================================

Ground Rules:
  • First, I would like to inform you that most of us here at Bleeping Computer offer our expert assistance out of the goodness of our hearts. Please try to match our commitment to you with your patience toward us. If this was easy we would never have met.
  • Please do not run any tools or take any steps other than those I will provide for you while we work on your computer together. I need to be certain about the state of your computer in order to provide appropriate and effective steps for you to take. Most often "well intentioned" (and usually panic driven!) independent efforts can make things much worse for both of us. If at any point you would prefer to take your own steps please let me know, I will not be offended. I would be happy to focus on the many others who are waiting in line for assistance.
  • Please perform all steps in the order they are listed in each set of instructions. Some steps may be a bit complicated. If things are not clear, be sure to stop and let me know. We need to work on this together with confidence.
  • Please copy and paste all logs into your post unless directed otherwise. Please do not re-run any programs I suggest. If you encounter problems simply stop and tell me.
  • If you do not reply to your topic after 5 days we assume it has been abandoned and I will close it.
  • When your computer is clean I will alert you of such. I will also provide for you detailed information about how you can combat future infections.
  • I would like to remind you to make no further changes to your computer unless I direct you to do so.
===================================================

Now that I am assisting you, you can expect that I will be very responsive to your situation. If you are able, I would request you check this thread at least once per day so that we can try to resolve your issues effectively and efficiently. If you are going to be delayed please be considerate and post that information so that I know you are still with me. Unfortunately, there are many people waiting to be assisted and not enough of us at BleepingComputer to go around. I appreciate your understanding and diligence.

This sounds like a hardware issue rather than malware but let's see if we can figure out what is going on.

Please do this.

Greetings Ankur.

Unfortunately, as you can see it failed the Self-Test. The reason why is because of the shock to the hard drive. There are 2 values of concern in the report. The drive was physically damaged because of the fall and as a result there are errors on the disk that can't be corrected. When your system hits one of those errors it throws a tantrum and doesn't let you continue.

191 G-sense Error Rate - 35827
197 Current Pending Sector Count - 75 sectors

What we want to do now is save all of your data files (documents, pictures, music, etc.) onto an external drive. Following that you will need to get a new hard drive, reinstall the Operating System, and install any programs that you added to the computer. First things first, let's backup your data.

It will be important to know how much data you need to back up so that your external device has enough free space to receive the data. If you have a large external drive I would suggest using that. If you only have a USB drive you will need to evaluate it.

===================================================

Copying Files Using Ubuntu USB

--------------
  • Launch Ubuntu
  • Click on the Files icon on the left hand side
  • Below Network you will find one or more Volumes listed
  • Insert a USB device with sufficient capacity, or an external drive and verify the device is listed as one of the Volumes. If not, remove then reinsert the device until it is listed
  • Double click on a Volume icon and attempt to locate a Windows folder (your C: drive)
  • Once you find the Volume with the Windows folder double click the Users folder
  • Double click on your User Name folder
  • From this screen you can examine the folders and contents to look for files you want to back up
  • For any file or folder you want to back up right click on the entry then select Copy To...
  • Select your external drive or USB device
  • Click Select and your information will be backed up
  • Repeat the process as necessary to copy your files
  • Review the contents of the external drive or USB device to ensure the items are present
===================================================

Things I would like to see in your next reply. Please be sure to copy and paste any requested log information unless you are asked to attach it. :thumbsup2:
  • Back up data?
