Computer running extremely slow - Possibly GPU related issue

Greetings friends!

 

Recently my PC has been running extremely slowly and not responding most of the times. This all started yesterday when I was only running google and talking to a friend on steam, not running anything that takes much GPU. And then suddenly my PC flashed into a blue screen with white text showing an error message which looked exactly like this: http://imgur.com/a/BePVl.

So after that my PC wont boot-up at all; it would keep getting stuck at Starting Windows. I tried fixing it with the windows error recovery but of course, nothing worked. I tried various methods to fix it from youtube and eventually it got it fixed but everything was EXTREMELY slow. My boot up time is usually slightly less than a minute but now it took 15 minutes. All programs would take forever to respond, if they even did. So what I think is causing the issue is my GPU. It's a GeForce 9600 GT but it was working fine when I first started playing my games. Later I noticed significant FPS drop so I checked my driver but it said it was working fine. I still knew something was wrong. Then one fateful day, my game wont load up, it would tell me that my driver is out of date or something. So like an absolute idiot, I just ran Steam as administrator and that way I could still run my game without updating the driver. My friend told me not to be stupid an actually update its drivers and so I downloaded the GeForce Experience program. It fixed the issue and even showed all the games I played. But later, about 5 months or so, I noticed more FPS drop again. So I checked the GeForce software and it just was written "geforce cannot optimize games for this computer" and all my games weren't there anymore. I tried searching everywhere for a solution but no avail. I should've tried this website then and there but I guess it's too late now. I haven't tried booting my PC up since last night and I don't think I should without asking anyone here. Please, any help is much appreciated.

I'm using Windows 7 ultimate and used to have Windows 10 before (downgraded). The various methods were basically like, going into cmd in the windows recovery and typed some commands the video told me to. I later trie running in safe mode and ran CCleaner and cleared out some dump files and even fixed some missing files in the registry and that seemed to help a lot because it started working then.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
 
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

   Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

    After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
 
     Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

     Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

     Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

Reinstalling Windows often solves software based problems. If that problem persists even after that, then it's more probably hardware problem. Your system including motherboard and graphic card is quite old so there might also be problems.

Per Speccy, hard drive reflects status of "Bad".  Self-explanatory.  I suggest that obtain another hard drive...and immediately try to move everything of value from the old drive to the new drive.

 

After that is done...then you can run a version of Data Lifeguard on the drive, to verify/refute the stated condition of the hard drive.

I have moved all my files that I needed to a flash drive because I don't have a spare HDD. Is it possible that I can fix my HDD myself?

My opinion is...when a hard drive develops problems, it's time for a new one.  To verify that there is or is not a problem is not necessarily a science, but the manufacturer of these drives provides users the best opportunity to verify/refute such notions...by providing diagnostics to check the status of what the manufacturer thinks are more salient indicators of pending or imminent failure.

 

In my experience of looking at data supplied by members seeking help...Speccy reflects a status of "Warning" in almost every case where there is a hard drive problem.  Yours is the first that I recall seeing "Bad" as a status...I'd say that a sign that the idea of fixing said drive...is unrealistic.

 

Some things in life you repair...some things you replace.  Users do not generally repair hard drives because they do not possess the knowledge or the environment to do so...and even if they did, by the time one figured out the cost in terms of time and energy, I suspect that would cost more than simply buying another hard drive.

 

You don't even know if something is wrong with the drive yet, since you have not run the diagnostic.  If you knew what is wrong (assuming that something is), you don't have the capability of attempting a repair.

 

Please run the diagnostic and find out what the drive manufacturer tells you about your drive...and post the result here.

I was unable to run Data life guard as I had to attend an urgent funeral. My HDD has completely died on me as I checked right now. I am unable to boot into the PC at all, not even safe mode. If possible, can I get some of my files back? They aren't important but rather will take a long time to download because of my slow internet.

Greetings,

I have bought a new HDD so of course it has no OS. Should I just plug in a downloadable Windows OS through a flash drive? Also, is it possible to retrieve some of my files from my old HDD? Thanks for all the help so far.

It's good idea to install Windows to that new HDD. I suggest plugging out old HDD before doing that. After you have installed Windows, plug in old HDD and boot Windows from new HDD. You probably can retrieve all files from old HDD assuming it's not broken.
