Using Windows 7.  I have 2 windows user accounts on my laptop - one for personal and one for work. My personal account works just fine but the work account has a problem. It will not connect to any web site using IE, Chrome, or Firefox. Any web site I try returns the message "This site cannot be reached". I can ping any IP address using DNS name or IP address with no problem.

Please help.

Gary

That didn't help. Pretty sure it's not a DNS problem when I can ping DNS addresses and my personal account on same computer works fine using same DNS settings.

Your work account might have a proxy setting on your Internet browsers,   ensure there are no Proxy settings configured.

If you create a new user account for work does it connect?

I can connect with a new user account but that is not the issue and doesn't solve the problem. I suspect my computer is infected and I need to get rid of the infection.

I have run Malwarebytes and Norton security scan but they don't show a problem.

If you suspect and infection then start a thread in the "Am I Infected" forum or the Virus Removal Forum where you can attach the logs requested in the Pinned Posts. I suspect your user profile has somehow been corrupted. I doubt it's an infection but the people in the above forums should be able to confirm if the computer is infected.
