I have spent much of the day following all the recommendations of Grinler to get rid of this infection, but still get the "Critical System Error" pop-up every few minutes. I have just run Highjackthis. Bellow is the resulting log. I am suspect line 021 points to my problem, but would like input from an expert before taking any action. Thanks for any help you can provide. Here is the log:

Please disregard request for help. I found that I had missed the qxfgcg.dll file placed in my /windows/system32 folder. After removing that file, the system seems to be behaving itself. I am glad I went through all the recommended steps, I now have much better anti-malware protection and knowledge, i.e. non-windows firewall, ad-aware, spybot, new anti-virus.

Glad to hear you already solved the issue.

Just look in your hijackthislog if next entry is still present and fix it:

O21 - SSODL: astrogeology - {2be26361-58a2-4836-be57-b838f02fec3f} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qxfgcg.dll (it should now say 'file missing' next to it)
