For two weeks now I've been dealing with the 'Home Search' spyware, untill I finally came across your self-help guide ("How to remove Home Search Assistant , CWS_NS3, Self-Help Guide"). I went through all the steps, but my pc is still not running like it should... I saved the logs from all the programs I used and wrote down what all went 'wrong' while following these steps. Here's a 'fresh' HJT log as well:

Here's what I wrote down during the process:
- No O2 entry in HJT that looks like ...32.dll (did have windows\system32\(6characters).dll, though);
- step 2:
Workstation NetLogon Service wasn't running in safe mode, so I couldn't stop it. I did get the path, though (C:\WINDOWS\winqr32.exe)
- step 6:
Can't find this 'winqr32.exe' file! It's not where the above path tells me where it should be...
- step 9:
* shell.dll was till present in %windir%\system
* 'shell.dll' changed into 'shell32.dll' in %windir%\system32 (but I guess that's normal)
* Ran Spybot S&D twice; it doesn't seem to be able to get rif of "DSO Exploit"
- step 10:
Stil can't download TrendMicro's HouseCall. IE freezes and shuts down. This is nothing new; I never got it to work before. I ran 'panda active scan 5.01' instead; it told me my pc was virus-free. Bitdefender did come up with some stuff, though. I saved the log, just in case.
- step 11:
Ad-Aware found some more infected stuff. Right before I wanted to quarantine everything, the program just shut off by itself. This has happened to me once or twice before.

Well, that was a mouthfull... Does anybody have any ideas on where to go from here? Thanks a lot!

Hi bart83,

Please download ServiceFilter.zip. This will reveal potential unauthorized running services in your system. Extract it to a new folder on your desktop. Double-click ServiceFilter.vbs. This script will create a text file named Post_This.txt in the same folder as the script itself has been saved - copy and paste the contents of Post_This.txt in your next reply here along with a new Hijackthis log.

From the moment you post your list, until you see a detailed fix written up, DO NOT reboot your system or log off. If you do, the service will have changed and the fix provided will not work

Hi Nirvana,

In the meanwhile, somebody on the afterdawn forum adviced me to download and install Adware Away (http://www.download.com/Adware-Away/3000-8022_4-10342100.html?tag=lst-0-1). I ran this program and followed the instructions I got on the other forum. That worked wonders. So far, so good: even after rebooting my computer a few times, my homepage is still what I want it to be, there are no more pop-up ads, no more links in 'my favorites' that keep comming back,...
Right now, I'll run some anti-virusprograms just in case, but I don't expect any more trouble.
Do I still need to download ServiceFilter.zip and stuff? Here's a fresh HJTlog:

Well it appears to have worked, surf around for a couple of days and see if you stay clear. If not post back and we'll try the long way.
