Struggling with laptop issues possible hacking / virus / malware??

Hi all,

 

I'm a new user and I've been having problems which results in me having to get a new laptop every 3-6 months. Everything seems to point to a targeted attack but as someone that's not very clued up on IT (the extent of my PC powers are CTRL+ALT+DEL) it's been very difficult to get to the bottom of it. Not to be paranoid but since having many problems with my upstairs neighbour this has all happened after so it seems a bit too much like a coincidence to me. The last issue that I had is that my laptop just freezes, I can't link this to anything in particular but this is usually the first major sign of things about to go badly wrong. When I restarted my laptop this morning after it froze I had lots of little black C prompt boxes come up and quickly disappear. Also iCloud login came up, which never happens as default. I was on the phone with apple yesterday as was sure my apple account had been hacked so changed password and set up 2 step verification. I always use Malwarebytes and Bitdefender but whatever is happening is getting past these no problem. So is it maybe being done through my router? If anyone can help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Hi, do you use a router?

MiniToolBox
  • Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Checkmark the following checkboxes:
    • Flush DNS
    • Report IE Proxy Settings
    • Reset IE Proxy Settings
    • Report FF Proxy Settings
    • Reset FF Proxy Settings
    • List content of Hosts
    • List IP conf[iguration
    • List Winsock Entries
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run. Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract (unzip) its contents to your desktop.
  • Open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is required, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory (usually C:\ folder) in the form of TDSSKiller_xxxx_log.txt. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

  • Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

  • Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
And finally I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan:
  • It is recommended to turn off your antivirus program. Click on the E5rfZI9.png button to see which antivirus is currently enabled:

  • Turn off your antivirus program. See here how to do this.
  • Check the option beside: Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and make sure that the option Clean threats automatically is NOT checked, and select the following:
Enable detection of potentially unsafe applications
Enable detection of suspicious applications
Scan archives
Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Click on the Change button and select only Operating memory, Autostart locations and drive C:\ to be scanned.

  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.

  • When the scan completes a list of found threats will open automatically (if any malicious files are found).

  • Push thecRhRYZ8.png button and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan.txt. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

  • Check the box beside RHzfZB1.png to uninstall the application when closed.
  • Push Vc3btaC.png and the close the application clicking the X in upper right corner.

Thank you boopme for all of your help, I've only managed to do the first 2 steps so far and was a bit worried about posting the results of the 1st step on a public forum page. I have saved it though, I've run it 3 times. Will try and run through the other steps now. I have a router although just have a feeling that maybe that's how I'm being hacked, if I am. Not sure about settings although it is fibre and yet we do have connection / speed issues which I thought was a bit odd. Thanks again, Emma.

Looks like Internet Explorer is out of date. Even if you do not use it you need to do the Security updates.

Download Windows Repair (All in One) from this site

Install the program then run it.

NOTE 1. In Windows Vista, 7 and 8 right click on the program, click "Run As Administrator".
NOTE 2. Disable your antivirus program before running Windows Repair.


Go to Step 2 and click on Check button next to 1. See If Check Disk Is Needed.
If the tool indicates that the Check Disk is needed click on Do It button next to 2. Check Disk.
In that case make sure you restart computer.

Once the above is done go to Step 3 and allow it to run System File Check by clicking on Do It button:

Go to Step 4 and under "System Restore" click on Create button:

Go to Start Repairs tab and click Start button.

Leave all checkmarks as they're.
NOTE for Windows 8 users. Reset Registry Permissions is NOT checked by design.

Click on Start button.

Post Windows Repair log which is located in the following folder:
64-bit systems - C:\Program Files (x86)\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs
32-bit systems - C:\Program Files\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs
