Got hit with Diaremover.
Small, gold, Norton's LiveUpdate looking shield beside clock,
that when I place the cursor over say's; downloading - whatever progress - 0% - 100%.
Neither hovering the cursor over it nor clicking either mouse button over it will tell me what it is.
I don't have Nortons on my machine but I have searched for LiveUpdate with no results.

When I log on with my 56k dial up, this thing starts downloading something
and doesn't stop for an hour or better.
Anyone have any ideas?

PC Hell says you are vulnerable to this malware if you are missing updates it also gives instructions for removing this variant of Spy Sheriff. http://www.pchell.com/support/spyaxe.shtml
I would also suggest you submit a Hijack This log for the experts to review by following the instructions found here:
“Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded and the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics...you are all stardust.”Lawrence M. Krauss
A 1792 U.S. penny, designed in part by Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, reads “Liberty Parent of Science & Industry.”
