I noticed on an old computer (XP SP3) that all of the internet explorer history, cookie and cache files (index.dat) were completely void of any data, and that there were new index.dat files for them in the TEMP folder. The creation dates of the new ones seem to indicated they were created very close to the same time after a folder called "smtmp" which had empty folders labeled 1 2 and 4.
1. Does this smtmp file indicate that a rogue antivirus was present at some point? (Thats what some googling has lead me to believe)
2. Are rouge antivirus programs known for deleting index.dat files? Or creating them in different directories?
