I have a trailer that uses green, yellow, brown/yellow and brown/green in the original wiring plug. I bought a universal wire set for trailer wiring and it only uses green, yellow and brown. How do I use the new wiring with the original plug? The original is grounded.
My original plug has 4 wires plus ground. They are green, yellow, green/brown and yellow/brown. The new wire I have only has 3 wires plus ground, green, yellow and brown. How do I use the 3-wires with the original 4-wire plug?

Depends where your from , what you had before , and if your wiring the vehicle to the Plug or fom an existing plug to the trailer.

Heres a Link i use for 5 Pin / 6 Pin trailer lights in Aust.  http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/wiring-diagrams

Be aware that different countries use different Color Codes , and you usually need L-Blk / R-Blk / Brake / Park Light / Rev / Hazards.

You can wire up any way you want from a Vehicle , ive seen wrong colors but same at each end , but thats why we have Standards to follow.

You can use a Multimeter to check existing Plugs on Vehicles to what does what when turned on.

Three wires + ground = four wires.

As Havachat has said it doesn't matter too much which colour you use for which connection so long as it is the same at each end. If you cannot find out your local standard it is not important until you need to get someone else to service it !  Have you asked your supplier which wire goes where ?

Four wires total ?  The UK standard is seven !  Ground, tail lights, left turn, right turn, brakes, reversing, fog (high intensity). And heavy commercials usually have two of these seven wire plugs to handle other systems like brake and tyre pressure warnings and ABS systems. Four wires - you should be so lucky !

Hey Super Cool Links.

I feel like a genius after using them to wire mine up.

Thanks
