---------------

- On starting up the computer, it seems to get to the 'choose user' screen fine, but on reaching the desktop there is major non-response, possibly due to lots of programs loading up at once and / or spyware (and low RAM, I think this could be the main cause).

- I've downloaded and installed AVG Antivirus, Spybot and Ad-Aware, done scans with all of these and removed anything posing a threat. There seem to be some files returning though, a recurrent situation, possibly spyware or trojan infection?

- A few programs were uninstalled, these being Symantec Norton, AOL (though I'm not sure if this was installed in the first place), and one or two other unnecessary programs.

- I would like to uninstall every 'anti spyware' and 'anti virus' program on this computer bar AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot and ZoneAlarm - could you please let me know if there are other potential 'anti spyware' software that could be spyware in themselves on the machine? I want to be rid of STOPzilla, EasyAntivirus, Cyberscrub, Defenza, and whatever other possibly harmful programs are on here (I'm not sure what DAO and Systerac XP Tools are, for example).

- I also want to get rid of Musicmatch Jukebox, but it gives me hassle when I try to uninstall it.

I believe the main problem causing the slow computer is just the fact that there is not enough RAM, but I am also concerned about possible spyware and virus infections, so if someone could please clear that up for me I'd be very grateful.

Thanks very much for your time, please get back to me as soon as you can!

Hi RoThiSePh,

Our apologies for the delay. If you still require help, please post a new fresh log so I can see if anything has changed.

If you have not done so already, please do the initial cleanup steps in the following instructions before posting your new log: Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log

I see a little on there that needs looking into and some of the programs you mention I agree need to be uninstalled. I just need to see what's changed since your post and if you include a list of installed programs I can assist you with that and it will possibly give some insight into removing some malware.

Open HijackThis.

If you still have the New Users Quickstart screen enabled, click Open Misc Tools Section.
If you just have the regular opening screen, click the Config... button then the Misc Tools button.

Now click the Open Uninstall Manager button, then the Save List button. Save the list somewhere convenient like My Documents and then the list will open in Notepad. Copy and Paste that list into your next reply to this post then we'll get started.

The fate of all mankind, I see

Is in the hands of fools
