Greetings. The following problem has stumped me. It has occurred on multiple devices.

Problem: Connect to home wifi. Wifi is shown as connected. Signal strength is strong. No internet connectivity. Android will tell me that my "internet may be unavailable". Windows will not say anything but my gmail will not reload. This problem occurs at my home. It is seen on my android phone, windows 7 computer, android tablet, and all of the devices my 3 roommates own.

Work around: Disable and reenable wifi adapter.  Or, ipconfig /renew. Both restore connectivity. Its just a mild nuisance to have to do this every time we come home.

Testing: 1. We setup a second wifi router and it experiences the same problems.  2. We contacted Uverse and they replaced the combo modem/router but still see the same problem.

Is this an ISP problem, router/modem problem, device problem or software problem? If you have any ideas for further testing or solutions I would be grateful.

Thanks!

ipconfig looks good though no wired interface

"Signal strength is strong. No internet connectivity"

indicates a problem between the router and the internet. not between your wifi and the router.

do a tracert yahoo.com and post the results for review

#why the heck no edit/font control anymore on this web site????

Go in to Device Manager and expand the Network Adapters section.

Right-click on th wireless adapter and select Properties.

Go to the Power Management tab and see if Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is unchecked.

uncheck ipv6 in tcp/ip properties

run the tracert again and post the results

logon to the route and go to the dhcp server page.  What is the scope of ip addresses?  [ex. 50-100 or 100 to 254]

Is this what you need?

DHCPv4 Start Address 192.168.1.64

DHCPv4 End Address 192.168.1.253

Also saw this and wasn't sure if it mattered - DHCP lease = 1 day. Should that be longer?

This is a wifi problem. Symptoms you are describing are associated with Co- Channel Interference AKA Channel Bleed.

Co-channel interference or Channel Bleed

CCI is a common deployment issue that can be resolved with configuration changes. Co-channel interference is when transmissions occur on the same frequency in the same area.

In the example below, Belkin:9D:06:C4 and Apple:Cb:07:EF both service an area on channel 1. Both APs can hear each other at a strong signal level. The APs have effectively combined into a bigger contention domain. Each device that both APs service will need to contend with each other for air time.

In a co-channel interference environment, stations follow CSMA/CA and will check if the medium is busy. If the medium is idle, they will attempt to transmit data. If it is not idle, they will defer transmission until it is.

Co-channel interference negatively impacts wireless networks when there’s an increase in contention. An example is a high-density area. As stations attempt to use the medium, they may need to wait for others to complete their transmissions. When this occurs, stations update their timers based on a network allocation vector (NAV) value within frames each station can read.

From the end user’s perspective, it can appear that WiFi is slow or not operable at all.

To resolve the issue a site survey should be conducted to find a noncongested wifi channel. Most likely you have neighbors who are using the same ISP Service, using the same model modem/wifi router as you are. I would suggest you conduct a site survey to find an open channel. If you require assistance with this let me know.

Thank you for your suggestion. I downloaded that app and did find overlapping Wi-Fi signals. I adjusted the channels on my combo router/modem to resolve this and confirmed it with the app. However, the issue persists.

Really? I see, what I would like for you to do please is reset your connections on your computer. Please open a command prompt in administrator mode, type netsh winsock reset then restart your computer. This will reset your network connections on your computer. From there we will begin to narrow down the problem.

Also what channel did you put your modem/router? There needs to be at least 5 channels of separation. So if you were on channel 1 then you need to change it to channel 6 or 11. If you were on channel 6 then you need to be on channel 1 or 11. If you were on channel 11 then you need to be on channel 1 or 6.
