Ok… I have an older HP LaserJet 430V and I bought a new Dell 5150. I hooked up the printer to the Dell and everything worked fine.

However, one morning I went to print and nothing happened. I went into the printers area in the control panel and it is gone!!

I reinstalled the printer and it worked fine. (I used a different usb port and it popped right up and installed on its own)

Now every day or two the printer disappears and I have to switch usb ports and it comes back!?!?

Please help me figure out what is going on here… it is starting to get real annoying..

I'm not going to lie, i'm a little stumped by this problem, but the only thing i can think of, is that there is possibly a problem with the usb ports? So check your device manager for something like that, also, do you shut down your computer and it does this? or does it happen when you leave it on for a long time?

This problem happens if I have it on shortly or a long time. I have checked the device manager and uninstalled/installed the usb controlers, ports, etc....

anyone else have any ideas??

Well hp offers a great technical support team  but other than that, I can only think of a voltage thing where the printer loses power for a little bit, and then the computer cant sense it anymore...
