I installed windows 7 prof on a custom build by myself about 4 weeks ago, everything has been running perfect, windows activated no problem first try, and still activated,

over the 4 week period i have been getting many updates as expected,

today i went into the list of updates just to look, and the following 2 updates have a "failed" beside them....

KB3006137

KB3055642

windows has tried to install them automatically about 15-20 times now, and every one of them says "failed"

i tried to do a manual update today and about 12 updates were available so i selected them all including the two listed above,

again these two failed, but all of the others install fine,

any suggestions?

KB3006137 is a recommended update for Lithuanian currency to the Euro. Do you need such this?? I remember the problem with the Ruble fiasco awhile back. You can safely ignore this update or as I have done, simply hide it.

With regards to KB3055642: This appears to be a security update for Windows 8.1 not Windows 7.

However, if I were you, I would run System File Checker ( sfc /scannow ) and see if there are any corrupt files.

Regards

Apologies as I have discovered KB3055642 is a Windows 7 update, thanks to SleepyDude

Hi,

I agree with sikntired probably you can skip the KB3006137 update.

Try to download and install KB3055642 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47136

Lets check for errors...

  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Run SFCFix (accept the security warning and follow the instructions on the screen)
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

You need to have Administrative Privileges. Are you running as the Administrator?? If not, then you need to run as Administrator.

Please follow SleepyDude's instructions in Post #7

Hi. . .

You should have several hundred Windows Updates for a Windows 7 system (build 7601 -- SP1 included on W7 DVD). Even more if you installed W7 build 7600 (no SP1).

Have ALL of the other updates installed except for these 2?

Regards. . .

yes all other updates have installed successfully except these two,

i would estimate i have had about 200-250 install successfully.....only these two fail

Lets check for errors...

  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Run SFCFix (accept the security warning and follow the instructions on the screen)
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

thanks, i am out of town right now, i will try this when i get home

is this the same as doing SFC from command prompt?

i ran SFC /scannow from command prompt and it didnt find anything wrong, no errors,
