D.E.P. suddenly will not allow programs from just a certain company from running.  These programs have ran without trouble for 9 years on this same Windows Vista computer; but today, Data Execution Prevention stops them.  They are just programming writing applications for a form of BASIC, and today DEP stops them.

I tried running AdwCleaner to see what it can find.  The log file #58 is from today.  This is what the log file shows:

Not sure if the two items are related or not to the programs which DEP stops.

Now with that, I will do the Cleaning anyway, but if anyone can tell me anything, I'm interested.

Data Execution Prevention affecting the certain programming application is now fixed.  Set DEP to turn on for essential programs and services only; and by doing so, discarding the two exclusions I had recently set for two other unrelated programs.  I guess I could later go back and add more items to the DEP Exclusions list.

Hi cafejose:

Are you referring to the registry keys for registry keys related to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{AFBCB7E0-F91A-4951-9F31-58FEE57A25C4}?

If so, have you ever had a Norton antivirus product installed on your computer?  This registry entry is often flagged because the Norton Safe Search feature of the Norton Toolbar browser extension uses the Ask.com search engine, which is considered a PUP (potentially unwanted program) by AdwCleaner and similar anti-malware scanners. See the following topics in the Malwarebytes forum:

False Positives: Registry Entries for Ask.com & AOL.com

FP or Problem?

I use Norton Security and always disable Norton Safe Search in my Norton Toolbar, but these entries still appear in my registry.

That seems unrelated to the D.E.P. situation, but I do use Norton Security on that machine.  I will note those registry entries for later and will try to leave them in place after the next time I run AdwCleaner.  My Norton scans have been clean for more than two years - much longer really; more like for the whole length of time having that computer.  Quick scans often find a few tracking cookies or else find nothing.
