Hello My parents have moved into my brothers house... they have xfinity internet wifi built into their cablemodem.  My dad has built himself a small man cave in thier garage which does not seem to be able to get a wifi signal.  We cannot move the cablemodem.  Of course they have access to the wifi SSID and password but it does not go any further than the kitchen.  I am looking for something that will extend the range of the wifi signal that either resides in the garage or in the basement where the cablemodem is located.  Obviously I don't want to mess with my brother's current setup so extending the range of the wifi signal is what im trying to accomplish.  Do I need a repeater? another wifi router that will setup as a bridge?  They do have a wifi router that used to be in their home it is a DLINK DIR 628 .. could this be used to do what I want?

I would run a network cable to the garage and put wifi off that.

If not do powerline network adapters that run the network through the power lines in your house [garage electrical needs to be off the main panel]
