Hi, I somehow seem to have downloaded a virus/trojan a few days ago, and Norton Antivirus Real time Protection has found Trojan.dropper every few minutes. I've also noticed that my computer was running VERY slow and Update.exe was using up 99% of CPU, and after googling it, I found out that it was a trojan, so I have deleted it.

I've tried Norton Antivirus, Adaware, Spybot, VundoFix, SmitfraudFix, and somehow, I seem to have gotten rid of Trojan.dropper, but I continue to get these crazy pop ups that just wouldn't stop.

Here's my hijackthis.log. Please help me get rid of these annoying pop ups!

Hi,

The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread.
Then I'll take a look.

also, Can you rename Hijackthis.exe to Analyse.exe
Then scan with Analyse.exe and post the log in your next reply (which will be a hijackthislog ofcourse)

hi, thank you so much for helping me!

i've found some files that look like viruses/spywares and tried to remove them, and i just installed a new version of norton antivirus, and it found a spyware and removed it, but i still get pop ups, and now, whenever i try to open a program or just a folder even, i get a msg saying:

"Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program Name: Windows Explorer Publisher: Microsoft Corporation. Data Execution Prevention helps protect against damage from viruses and other security threats."

so far, i've tried Norton Antivirus, TrendMicro Housecall antivirus, Spybot, Adaware, SpywareBlaster, but i guess I still have something that's not being caught by any of those programs..

here's my new hijackthis log:

Hello,

I see viewpoint installed....
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Please download VundoFix.exe to your C:\.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • In case it says that nothing was been found, Right click the list box (white box) in the main VundoFix window.
  • Select “Add More Files?” from the menu that comes up. This will open a new VundoFix window.
  • In the Window: copy and paste next in the first field: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljj.dll
  • Click the “Add Files” button.
  • Click the "Close Window" button.
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the Posted Image icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: mlljj - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljj.dll

I hope I was SUPPOSED to fix those cuz I saw that you've written them there, but didn't write what I should do with them... So I just assumed that you wanted me to check those off and press "Fix Checked". I hope I did the right thing!

oh, and when i ran VundoFix, it said that it didn't find anything, so I added C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljj.dll
and deleted it

here is my VundoFix.txt:

"Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program Name: Windows Explorer Publisher: Microsoft Corporation. Data Execution Prevention helps protect against damage from viruses and other security threats."

... but I don't exactly know what it did cuz it still let me run VundoFix..

Hello,

I hope I was SUPPOSED to fix those cuz I saw that you've written them there, but didn't write what I should do with them... So I just assumed that you wanted me to check those off and press "Fix Checked". I hope I did the right thing!

Ooops, yes, forgot to mention what to do with these entries. But you did alright here and fixed them.

Don't worry about the Data Execution Prevention while running Vundofix; it looks like it worked after all.

As a final cleanup, * Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

I just went to random websites to see if i'm getting anymore popups, but so far, it seems like i'm not getting any!

So far, I've only surfed around for a few min, so I dunno if I've just been lucky, or if popups are gone for good, but for now, no popups.. yay! Thank you, thank you!

Only thing I'm getting is the Data Execution Prevention. I don't exactly understand what it's doing, but I seem to get that..

In anyway... Here you can read more info about it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875352

Here's a workaround to solve the issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875351/

Also make sure you installed all windows updates, because I see you are missing a few.

The popups should be gone now..

Glad I could help. :flowers:

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...xp/iesecxp.mspx

Also visit this Free Online Scanner for PC Health and Safety and Microsoft Security At Home for tips to Protect your Pc, Protect yourself and Protect your Family.

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Thank you so much for helping me!

I'm sorry to reply back so late. I haven't had a time to use the computer much in the past few days, so I couldn't check if everything was working properly.

but, I'm not getting popups anymore, and Data Execution Prevention Window has stopped popping up as well. It seems like everything is back to normal now, thank you!!

My dad uses online banking with this computer, but b/c of the viruses/trojan/spywares, I had told my dad to stop using it for the time being, but seeing as how I'm not seeing any virus/trojan after running antiviruses, I can assume that my computer is virus/trojan-free, right? (b/c the trojan I had, when I googled it, it said that it was something that allows attackers to access your computer and can steal passwords, internet banking and personal data) We removed a few trojans that supposedly allows them to access the computer, so I'm hoping that I can go back to using my computer without worrying about someone stealing information...

Hi,

From the previous logs you posted, I don't really see that you were dealing with keyloggers/password stealers though. However, it is always a good idea after getting infected to change your online passwords.
So after changing them, you should be ok.

By the way, there's one little step you have to perform...

Check and fix next entries in hijackthis again:

O2 - BHO: PrintViewBHO Class - {D4E0C464-30CE-4075-9A10-71FD106C2847} - C:\PROGRA~1\PRINTV~1\PRINTH~1.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PVModule] C:\PROGRA~1\PRINTV~1\pvmodule.exe

Because after analysing - they are bad.

Then delete next folder:

C:\Program Files\PRINTV~1 (printview)

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{D4E0C464-30CE-4075-9A10-71FD106C2847}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PrintViewBHO Class]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{24723349-C5C0-44C2-837D-84250E6B2A12}]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Post a new hijackthislog in your next reply.

I couldn't delete a .dll file in the printview folder b/c it said that it was "in use or write-protected", so I used a program called MoveOnBoot to delete it.

I also added the stuff in the quote box as registry, and here's my new hijackthis log:

I couldn't delete a .dll file in the printview folder b/c it said that it was "in use or write-protected", so I used a program called MoveOnBoot to delete it.

Good. Strange after fixing those entries in hijackthis that the dll was still there though. Normally hijackthis should remove that printhook*.dll
Anyway, it is gone now and everything looks ok here.

Happy surfing! :D
