Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy.

If you still need help, please post a fresh Hijackthis log, in this thread, so I can help you with your malware problems.
If you have resolved this issue please let us know.

yes, I would appreciate some assistance with this problem. I also have been having trouble with a crazy amount of pop ups, and now whenever I perform a system scan with adaware, my machine shuts down. Other than that my machine is running ok, but I know that there is something wrong.

Here is my updated log:

Please click Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall these programs:

Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player
Viewpoint Toolbar

Let's get a little more info on a suspicious file that shows up in your log.
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan" box on the top of the page:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mcdtub.dll

  • Disable your firewall if you are using one.
  • Click on the submit button
  • Reenable your firewall as soon as you get results.
  • Please post the results in your next reply.
============

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Sometimes Ewido has trouble with this particular infection, so I wanted to double check to be sure it dealt with it properly.

Your log looks pretty good. How are things on your end? Any problems?

Yes there is. It's called Firefox.

Or if you really wanted to stick with IE for some crazy reason, you could go ahead and upgrade to IE7.

It's not a setting with IE that causing that problem. It's probably another program. It may be your Google toolbar or Yahoo toolbar. Or maybe AdwareAlert. Think about when the problem began and then any programs that were installed around that time and you should find your culprit.

You seem reluctant to try Firefox. It's faster, more secure, has more features, and just a much better all around browser than IE. It's worth a try.
